The Centre for Innovation and Research in Aging (CIRA), is a leading New Brunswick research organization focusing on aging health and quality of life for senior populations. Located on the campus of York Care Centre, which houses New Brunswick’s largest long-term care facility, CIRA is partnered with innovators, research organizations, and academics from across Canada. 

The Research Therapist will be part of a research team implementing the study “Home-based and residence-based virtual reality training to increase rehabilitative exercise in seniors”, funded by the New Brunswick Healthy Seniors Pilot Project. Participants will be adults over aged 65 who are recovering from illness and/or injury and are receiving Extra-Mural rehabilitation services. The Research Therapist will be responsible to create safe and challenging virtual reality programs for participants, either in their own home or within their long-term care facility. This would include creating the programs, training the participants and monitoring their progress.

As the optimal candidate, you will be a Rehabilitation professional.  You will have obtained a Kinesiology Degree or  Occupational Therapist  or Physiotherapist, and preferably up to 3 years of professional experience (preferred experience working in at least one of the following: long-term care, homecare clients, and/or working with frail older adults). Experience in clinical research is considered an asset. You will also be familiar with gaming, technology, hardware and software, able to problem-solve technology installations and have experience with MS Office. You will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to communicate effectively with participants, other therapists, research colleagues, and the media. The ability to prioritize multiple tasks, organize your own workload and meet deadlines is essential.

Note: This position requires flexible hours and some travelling (mileage will be paid). The successful candidate will be bilingual (French/English). The candidate must provide documentation of TCPS-2 training within the past 5 years or be willing to complete this requirement before the anticipated start date.

Rehabilitation Assistant

We are currently seeking a part-time Rehabilitation Assistant.  This position will provide rehabilitation services in support of resident’s autonomy in collaboration with a team of health care professionals.  Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Assess and identify the rehabilitation needs of the residents and assist in the development  and implementation of treatment plans designed to meet resident’s needs and maintain resident’s autonomy in collaboration with health care professionals
  • Modify and adapt individual treatments in accordance with residents status as established by health care professionals
  • Communicate and provide guidance to staff pertaining to the rehabilitation programs regarding hearing, mobilization, positioning and eating
  • Document and communicate progress with health care professionals, residents, and/or families regarding treatment
  • Maintain rehabilitation equipment
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings

As the ideal candidate, you have attained your high school diploma plus successful completion of the  Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy Assistant Program or Bachelor Degree in Kinesiology.  You are able to follow verbal instructions, have a good previous work record and are physically able to perform the assigned duties.  Experience working and/or volunteering with the geriatric population is an asset.
